Rose auditorium Spring Choir Concert

By, Trinity Mitchell

On Thursday April 9th all the South Salem High school choirs preformed their Spring Concert in the rose auditorium from 7:30-9:30pm, tickets were $3.00 each or $5.00 for two tickets, students got in for free. The concert consisted of four different choirs including the Symphonic choir which will be heading to state. The concert was delayed, but otherwise went on without any major problems.

The Southernaires choir went on first, they sang the songs “Georgia on My mind” followed by “A bunch of Blues”. Next the Bella Voce choir preformed “Gerakina” and “The poet sings”. Statesmen choir followed singing “The Turtle Dove and A Capital Ship”. Then came the Chanteuse choir singing “Les Berceaux”, “Do Not Stand At My Grave and Weep”, and “High Flight”. Last but not least the Symphonic choir preformed a sight reading demonstration then sang “Nunc Dimittis”, “Tykus Tykus”, “Ballade to the Moon”, and finally “Way Over in Beulah Lan’”.

William Mclean, the South Salem high school choir teacher, commented on the performance, “I thought it was great, the concert gave everybody a chance to showcase chanteuse and symphonic choir, after a successful district choir.” Said the choir director.

Students had a lot to contribute, “It was a wonderful learning experience, and then after we sang, symphonic sung afterwards it was an enlighting experience as to what I could become.” Said Jasmin Cardenas member of the Bella Voce choir.

WK11 critique

Story one:  Passenger kicked off plane in Chicago for allegedly poking snoring man next to her.

Website url: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/passenger-kicked-plane-chicago-poking-snoring-man-article-1.2188893

This story is actually really amusing. Its written to entertain the audience. The man in the story was stabbed on ta flight by the women next to him for snoring. I thought it was well written and to the point and they author was able to get a quote from the man being stabbed, he was very optimistic about the whole thing. This story isn’t political nor is it very relevant but it does amuse, which is most likely the reason it was written.

Story Two:  Visual voices: artists combine the verbal with the visual

This article was most likely written to inform the public about the art exhibit. It was also a to the point story but as well as that they were able to get quotes from the artists. The article is relevant to people in Oregon, it was written in simple but not overly-easy words.

  1. I agree with Kelly’s decision to stop the comma debate, as a leader he needs to protect those who work for him, even if it means risking his own job.
  2. I agree with Lane’s decision to not agree with it yet. He cautioned the competing newspaper but he was also wanting to be honest so he told the editor he wouldn’t comment on it, cause he may not have believed Steven but he also had no proof otherwise.
  3. I disagree with this decision, if someone does something once they’ll most likely do it again. It turned out that this was not his first time doing so as well and he was eventually fired.

Part 2

  1. An editor should try his best to defend his writers but just as he should defend them the writers should not do something purposefully bad. As long as a writer follows the rules and trys their best then the editor should be pleased with their efforts. I think Kelly should have known about Steven lying the moment he saw the fake website for jukemicronics

Activity 4

Part two

  1. I learned just how hard and how many people work to get even a single piece published. A lot of people work really hard and if even one false story is published it reflects on all of them and the whole magazine/newspaper is hurt.

1.  Article name: Salem man convicted of murder in ’13 Silverton shooting

  • What is the specific topic of the production? What overall purpose does it seem to have? Was it well written/shot? Why?
This article was written to inform people about the man’s trial and outcome.
  • What issues and topics for further discussion does the production raise?
The man was convicted of murdering 13 people in Silverton.
  • What are your own reactions and thoughts regarding the work?
It states in the article that the mans family cried outside during his trial, this makes me sympathetic of them but I have no pity for the murderer himself.
  • Are there any errors/mistakes? If there are issues comment on them.
There could stand to be some more content then just a brief summary
  • What production did you use? Website address?
